Có thật sự an vui?
Hà Nội ba mươi sáu phố phường ơi,
Sài Gòn, hòn ngọc viễn đông diễm lệ
Ngày xa hoa phù thế
Người cơ cực não nề...
Ơi, cuộc đời là thế!
Những con hẻm khốn cùng,
Những ruộng đồng tả tơi...
Dân kiếm cơm, đau xót đổ mồ hôi
Đời cơ cực, dù mỏi mòn ráng sống,
Ai chua xót nghe,
Sài Gòn, Hà Nội khua chiêng, đánh trống
Ai có hay, hang cùng ngõ hẻm sống cơ hàn!
Ơi Việt Nam, Việt Nam!
Gửi về đâu nguồn sầu bất tận!
Quê Hương ơi, biết bao giờ hưng phấn,
Người bớt nghèo, đời sống bớt gian nan
Tôi thầm gọi Việt Nam,
Việt Nam quê tôi đó!
Bao giờ trăng mới tỏ,
Đời an vui, người thoát cảnh lầm than
Tôi thầm gọi Việt Nam
Việt Nam, tôi thầm gọi...
Tôi âm thầm Nguyện Cầu... chờ đợi,
Xuân Thanh Bình vang câu hát Tự Do
Tự Do tiếng hát câu hò...
Nắng vàng trải thắm đôi bờ Quê Hương...
The Alley-Ways
April is already arriving again
For thirty-five years, there was a new changing life due to the country loss!
What did I think about the native place and the fatherland?
What did I think about the today youth?
What did I think about the exiled fate?
As day follows day
Our homeland was still at the same place, there
Oh, the orb of the moon! Did you continuously light up bright?
To shine benevolence and righteousness of the human love...
There were great buildings immeasurably sky-high!
There were squalid alley-ways of mud and puddles!
The homeland of nowadays!!!
Has been swollen up like balloons!
Oh, homeland! Is it a genuine peace?
Oh, homeland! Is it really safe and joyful?
Oh, Hanoi with its former thirty-six streets and guilds!
Saigon, the dazzlingly beautiful pearl of Far-East!
Some of its inhabitants led their lavish lifestyle and ephemeral existence
Others dragged on wretched-poverty and hardships...
Oh, such is life!
The alley-ways reduced to destitution
The fields were in tatters...
People who earned a livelihood felt great anguish in their sweating labor
Living in miseries in despite of they had gradually declined to endeavor their existence
As everyone has painfully heard tell that
Saigon, Hanoi raised a ballyhoo by sounding peals of gong and beating rolls of drum
As everyone has known that all out-of-way places suffered famine and chilliness.
Oh, Vietnam, Vietnam!
Where can you send the ins-and-outs of an unending dolefulness?
Oh, homeland! When would you become prosperous?
Everybody would decrease his poverty, his livelihood would reduce miserably hard plights!
I have a secret call for Vietnam
Vietnam is my home country!
When can the moon shine out?
The existence would become safe and merry, humans would escape from hardships and miseries!
I have a secret call for Vietnam
Vietnam as I discreetly call for...
Silently, I pray for... and await
The peaceful spring will resound far and wide with the singsongs of Freedom
Freedom relates to singsongs and heave-hos...
The golden sunshine will spread out gorgeously over the both borders of the homeland...
