Những Con Đường Hà Nội
TẠ TỴ
Ôi, Hà Nội
Ôi những con đường cũ
Đâu hàng Bông hàng Trống với hàng Khay
Đâu hàng Đào khoe nõn những bàn tay
Những đôi mắt nhìn nhau sầu ly cách.
Nước Hồ Gươm còn xanh màu cẩm thạch?
Tà áo ai còn đẹp buổi hoàng hôn.
Nhớ thương xưa nhạt nắng những khung tường
Nghiêng nghiêng xuống măt hồ soi bóng nước
Những con đường
Những con đường năm trước.
Của ngày xưa xa lắm Hà Nội ơi
Đêm nay vềngự trị giữa lòng tôi
Đêm nay về với 5 cửa ô nghẽn lối.
Thao thức mãi từng canh gà báo vội
Rạng đông nào gối lệch tóc đêm sâu
Ở ngoài kia bóng tối đã phai mầu !

The Streets of Hanoi City
English version by NGUYEN HUU LY
Oh, Hanoi with its old streets!
Where are the Cotton Street, the Drum Street, and the Tray Street?
Where is the Silk Street with its vendor’s shown-off, pretty, soft hands?
And several pairs of eyes looking at each other sadly because of unexpected separations!
Is the Restored-Sword lake’s water still keeping its green color of jade?
Is someone’s robe still gracefully flapping at dusks?
I do miss the sight of some blocks of wall at twilight in the part
With their slightly inclined shadows that the still water of the lake mirrored
Those streets
Those streets are the ones of past years
The ones pertaining to the very old days
Oh, Hanoi! You come back, tonight, to reign over my all heart!
You come back, tonight, with your all five blocked-out main gates!
Sleeplessly, I was tossing about in my bed through out every early cockcrow until the last accelerated one…!
What a dawn! My pillow is displaced, my hair dishevelled during the deep night-time
Outdoors, the dark has faded away!
