When You Return
Enligh version by NGUYỄN HỮU LÝ
When you return, the sky is azure, and the wind, fresh
The erosive road exhales the smell of rotten leaves in the homeland
The tall shoots of cabbage garden attract bees and butterflies to come to the courtyard
I lie down for rest at noon animated by sunny sounds
On the soft land surface, the footsteps suddenly become heavy
Yellow leaves of bamboo accumulate and blow away the autumn
Those beds of tuberose unfold their white flowers
And leaves fall abundantly in the porch, around the attle-screen
The mother country distresses too much there
The sheath of areca leaf cherishes the shriveled petiole on the old palm-tree row
I lie down and count out successive days and months
Which gradually rolled on and followed by sequent teardrops
The farmer memories are still kept intact there the weather of the first and the seventh lunar month are identically sorrowful
The win is always sweetly-perfumed with pomelo and aglaia flowers
Then, in Tet arrival, my heart calls up deep remembrances
When you return, your former steps seem alien to you
And the whole grasses and flowers stood still That sleep as I have ever expected during my lifetime
From my blood constantly severed the cardio-vascular way
My darling! Don't sob, don't grieve, don't peer at all!
Bow down your head, just carry on, and leave
It's going to get dark, your regret feelings would bring to an end
And your shoe-marks would be erased on the morrow
When I return, my old house had already been lost
Melancholy exposes everywhere in the long walls, in every arm, and in every layer of dust on shoulders
days and months decline gradually, and hide your eyes
A callous hand amounts to its lumpy fingers
The tender leaves' smell exhales on the inconclusive line now
You've already departed, but the old well is still fresh
I bow down my head and pat on the wrinkled skin
Water drops bring silently and suddenly my happy sentiments back
Alike a gentle gust of wind reminisces abruptly about the visit
The strange people look at me, I bow down my head and gaze at their silhouettes
Vague feelings rise up in trembling with fond remembrances
That image was sunk deep in the past
A limpid water surface is opposite to my face
I lift softly my hand and close my eyes
A wasted sound stirs up from the bottom of my heart
