Chuyến tàu tù nhân
TÔ THÙY YÊN
Tàu đi. Lúc đó đêm vừa mỏi
Lúc đó, sao trời đã ngủ mê
Tàu rú. Sao ơi hãy thức dậy
Long lanh muôn mắt tiễn tàu đi
Thức dậy, những ai còn sống đó
Nhìn ra nhớ lấy phút giây này
Tàu đi như một cơn giông lửa
Cuồn cuộn sao từ ống khói bay
Cảnh vật mơ hồ trong bóng đêm
Dàn ra một ảo tượng im lìm
Ủ ê những ngọn đèn thưa thớt
Sáng ít làm đêm tối tối thêm
Bến cảng nhà kho những dáng cây
Chưa quen mà đã giã từ ngay
Dẫu sao cũng một lần tan hợp
Chớ tiếc nhau vài cái vẫy tay
Toa nêm lúc nhúc hồn oan khốc
Đèn bão mờ soi chẳng rõ ai
Ta gọi rụng rời ta thất lạc
Ta còn chẳng đủ nửa ta đây
Người bạn đường kia chắc chẳng ngủ
Thành tàu sao chẳng vỗ mà ca?
Mai này xô giạt về đâu nữa
Đất lạ ơi, đừng hắt hủi ta!
Đất lạ người ta sống thế nào
Trong lòng có sáng những trăng sao
Có buồn bã lúc mùa trăn trở
Có xót thương người qua biển dâu?
Tàu đi như một cơn điên đảo
Sắt thép kinh hoàng va đập nhau
Ta tưởng chừng nghe thời đại động
Xô đi ầm ĩ một cơn đau
Ngồi đây giữa những phân cùng bụi
Trong chuyển dời xung xát bạo tàn
Ta trở thành than thành súc vật
Tiếng người e cũng đã quện ngang
...Mà thôi, hãy nuốt lệ còn nghẹn
Tỉnh thức, lòng ơi nhìn tận tường
Thời đại đang đi từng măng lớn
Rào rào những cụm khói miên man
Người bạn đường kia chắc vẫn thức
Mong tàu đi đến chỗ đêm tan
Có nghe lịch sử mài thê thiết
Cho sáng lên đời đã rỉ han
Tàu ơi, hãy kéo còi liên tục
Cho tiếng rền vang dậy địa cầu
Lay động những tầng mê sảng tối
Loài người hãy thức, thức cùng nhau...

Prisoners' carrying train trip
English version by NGUYEN HUU LY
The train started moving. At that time, just after a weary night
Then, why did stars sleep soundly in heaven
The train whistle wailed. Oh, stars! Wake up!
Ten thousands of gemmy eyes were given a sent-off the departed train.
Wake up! Those who were still alive over there
Try to remember this moment in looking out
The train set out like a storm of fire
Stars were whirling round the chimney
The surrounding scenery looked vague in the night darkness
To spread out a very quiet mirage
Sad lookingly, the sparseness of the lights
With its dimness that made the night darker and darker
The railroad station, warehouses, and tree appearances
Unacquainted with them, but I had to leave at once
Anyhow, it also was a dispersing and reuniting chance
Don't regret having one another a few waving-handed farewells
The jam-backed wagon was crawling with in just souls
The dimmish light of the hurricane-lamp could not perceive anybody at all
I screamed panickily that I got lost my way
It seemed that I had not enough just a half of myself here
Certainly that fellow-traveler could not sleep
Why did the train edge not flap but sing?
I'll be drifting along wherever on the morrow
Oh, foreign land! Don't snub me!
How did human beings live in a foreign land?
Were there dazzling bright moon and stars in their mind?
Were there any anguished feelings in restless season?
Did they have compassion for anybody through ebbs and flows?
The train departed like a fit of shiftiness
Iron than steel frightened and conflicted together
It seemed as if I heard the great moving time there
To push away boisterously a fit of suffering
Sitting here among excrements and dusts
In an inauspicious and fiendish vicissitude
I became coal or a domestic animal
I was for fear that the human voice also exhausted
Try to swallow down the coking tears, that's all!
Oh, be fully awakened and look down plainly to the bottom of your heart
The era was passing through in every big fragment of life
Clusters of smoke were never-ending cascading noises
Certainly, that fellow traveler still remained awoke
Hope that the train would come to the spot at early dawn
Did you ever hear the tragic and heart-rending history?
To brighten the existence badly covered with rust
Oh, train! Try to sound continually the whistle!
It'll resound far and wide throughout the globe
To stir up all unconsciously social strata
The humankind should awake, and keep altogether awakening!
